Read for the Record Event

SCU presented WCAC with a sponsorship of $1,000 for their Read for the Record event. This national event took place on Thursday, October 27, 2016. The sponsorship allowed for WCAC to purchase over 200 copies of the book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich, by Julia Sarone-Roach; a copy of which was given to each Head Start pre-school student.

Several community volunteers were welcomed at WCAC to take part in this event. Among the volunteer readers were Colleen Lynch and Yolanda Alvarado, both of Southbridge Credit Union. The volunteers were paired up with teachers and staff from the Head Start program some of which read the book in Spanish as well. SCU is passionate about the importance of all aspects of literacy for all ages. SCU proudly sponsored this event as WCAC shares a similar mission of serving the underserved throughout our local communities.
